For the past several years, our preschool class, along with the preschool class in the room next-door to us, teach a two-week segment introducing our students to some of the world's most famous artists, and their different styles of artwork.  Then, we pay tribute to the artists that we have studied, by creating an art project, that, in some way, reflects the style of each individual, or some element of their work.  Finally, we host a museum, housed in the school library, to showcase all the talent of our own young artists. Their work is always extraordinary.
The artists included this year are:
Van Gogh-impasto painting/sunflowers
Picasso-puzzle pieces/Cubism, one color painting/The Blue Period
Matisse-snail collage/The Snail
Chagall-stained glass vases
Louis Comfort Tiffany-Tiffany "hurricane" lamps
Rauschenberg-beach combine/driftwood collections
Monet-water-color painting
Pollock-action art
Seurat-dotted suns/Pointillism
Stratton-class mosaic/pewabic pottery
Mondrian-blocks with limited color palette
Arp-collage of happy accidents/random art
Cezanne-still life fruit/still life painting
To quote Picasso, "Every child is an artist.  The problem is how to remain one once he grows up."

  4. Bravo Babe!! Well done!! That's 4 years and running that you, and Miss Tammy teacher, and all your co workers have had this excellent program for the little ones!! It truly is amazing seeing and hearing the things they say as they are learning about Art!! It is like their little brains are sponges, so full of curiosity!! They suck it all in, and are just fascinated and joyful to learn about these new and interesting things!! I just know this thirst to learn, is going to do nothing but help them immensely in their many school years to come!! Kudos to you my dear for dreaming this up for the little ones!! You are my Amazing one!!! You know who loves ya!! lol!! Dave

    1. well, thank you dave! if it wasn't for tammy though, it never would have happened. it was she, who, knowing of my love for art, so generously suggested that i do my "famous art and artists" in her class, and, then, seeing all the beautiful work the littles did, suggested we create our art museum. and the addition of mrs. arbic and mrs. kimball's class added so much to the program. it is all of our efforts, as well as mrs. winters and the parent volunteers too, that make it all work. we have been blessed to be a part of so many littles' lives over the years...and maybe, when they become famous someday, they will think back fondly, on the the very first time their work was ever shown in a museum. :D ...and dave, your comments really made me happy...i love you very much for saying them.

    2. Amy you are the heart and soul of the museum!!! We are your followers too!! Not only have you taught the littles the love of art and about these artist, you have also taught me. The ambience of the museum is a special feeling. When you enter it, you truely feel like you are entering a true art museum. The enthusiasm from the children and families (including extended family) is truely the reason everyone works so hard to put this together every year!! Dave you are a kind man!!!
